A LIVING FRANCISCAN COMMUNITY

Inspired by the values and teachings of St Clare and St Francis we treasure:

  • the integrity and gifts of each person
  • a compassionate and reconciling heart
  • reverence for creation

From its beginnings in 1884, with an enrolment of 12 students, St Clare’s has remained true to the vision of the Poor Clares who founded the College. The intention of the College is to cap enrolments to maintain a school that is big enough to offer a broad education yet small enough to be able to value each individual girl.

St Clare’s strength has always been this limited size that provides a nurturing environment for each student . Many of our students are from the third generation of families who have sent their daughters to St Clare’s, a testament to the strength of the school’s results and sense of community.

Visible expressions of this sense of community are evident in:

  • participation in Religious Celebrations in the Catholic Tradition
  • an academic Religious Education program focusing on the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church
  • a Social Justice Program that fosters awareness of and promotes an active interest in supporting those in need
  • a formal pastoral care program that increases student resilience
  • a strong student leadership program
  • the encouragement of student decision making and increased responsibility as students progress through the school
  • student management practices based on building sound and harmonious relationships

“St Clare’s instilled in me the value of integrity, cultural diversity and the philosophy that we are but a single entity within the entire universe we all share”

Anita Heiss PhD – ex-student, author, social commentator, cultural activist.
